Paul henry
tea and poetry …
We shared some of our favourite Welsh poetry
As our special guest, Paul was invited to bring with him a selection of some of his favourite Wesh poetry and we would do the same. All to be shared around the table with home-made Welsh cakes and delicious scones! Ruth read Gillian Clarke’s The Chrismas Wren.

Here are all the poems we shared:
Goodbye (1942) by Alun Lewis – read by Paul Henry.
(Alun Lewis’s collected stories and collected poems are both published by Seren)
The Christmas Wren by Gillian Clarke – published by Candlestick Press – read by Ruth.
Welsh Love Letter by Michael Burn – from Open Day and Night (Chatto) – gloriously read by Paul Henry.
Welsh Incident by Robert Graves – from Complete Poems Volume 2 (1997) edited by Beryl Graves and Dunstan Ward.
Land in Water David Foster-Morgan
Rock Pool by Robert Minhinnick
On the Third Day by Catherine Fisher from The Unexplored Ocean published by Seren – read by Catharine
And by Alison Brackenbury – from ‘Skies’, published by Carcanet, 2016, read by Anna
Elegy for David Beynon by Leslie Norris – from Leslie Norris: The Complete Poems, edited by Meic Stephens – read by Paul Henry
The Desert Inn by Stephen Knight – from ‘Dream City Cinema’ (Bloodaxe) read by Paul Henry
Paul also sang and played for us, as well as reading his own work in the evening after supper, but more of that to come!
