Paul henry
our special guest …
An evening poetry reading and songs
Paul gave us a lovely reading, including some of my favourites. He also read from his newer book, The Glass Aisle. Finishing off with some lovely songs, he left us wanting more, and then signed books for us. What an absorbing, and very special evening.

Chattels from ‘Boy Running’ (Seren)
The Visitors from ‘The Milk Thief’ and ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (both published by Seren)
Excerpts from The Hesitant Song from ‘The Glass Aisle’ (Seren)
Put on the Sun from ‘The Glass Aisle’ (Seren)
Ingrid’s Husband from ‘Ingrid’s Husband’ and ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (both books published by Seren)
Daylight Robbery from ‘Captive Audience’ and ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (both books published by Seren). The poem originally appeared in The TLS and since in many anthologies, most recently ‘Poems that make Make Gown Women Cry’ (Simon & Schuster) by the way – this is one of my all time favourite poems, and was much appreciated by my Mum, too. She was a big fan of Paul’s in the years before her death.
Gwenno – unpublished
Mary, some nights I see you… extract from the title-poem of ‘The Glass Aisle’ (Seren)
Studio Flat from ‘Boy Running’ and ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (both published by Seren)
Penllain from the ‘New Poems’ section of ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (Seren)
The Black Guitar – title poem of Paul’s Indian selected poems – first appeared in The TLS and then in ‘Ingrid’s Husband’ (Seren) and ‘The Brittle Sea: New & Selected Poems’ (Seren). The poem is widely anthologised, most recently in ‘Smart Devices’ (ed. Carol Rumens, Caracent) with an accompanying essay by the editor.
