Under new management!
On the first rainy, blustery day of our time here, we decided to visit the Temple View Hotel on the day they opened to the public. Good decision!
We had an excellent lunch in this beautifully refurbished hotel, where the subtle decor picks up the colours of the landscape. The service was first class and friendly. We’ll be back.
After a very leisurely time over our delicious three courses, we togged up and set off to visit the nearby ancient temple that gives the hotel its name.
Teample na Trianid (Trinity Temple) was a medieval monastery and college of European significance, founded by Beathag, daughter of Somhairle (Somerled). Enlarged about 1350-1390 by Amie nic Ruari, first wife of John, Lord of the Isles. We admired the lichen encrusted stones, wondered about the inhabitants of the graves, and enjoyed the glorious views.
It is a beautiful site ~ we loved it. Afterwards we took a little look at the bit of the Hebridean Way that passes behind the hotel, but the wind was fierce and we soon scuttled back to the car!
(yes this is still the right email!)
