Exploring Poetry

The life and work of Stevie Smith, led by Ali Redgrave
We spent a fabulous two hours in the company of Stevie Smith as the incomparable Ali Redgrave led an inspired session full of poetry, insight, passion and sadness. Thoughts of death and loss were, inevitably, never far away and yet we were moved to laughter, wonder, and joy as well as sorrow for this tragic but complex life. What a woman!
These are the poems we read and analysed:
Infant
Papa Love Baby
A House of Mercy
My Earliest Love
Exeat
Tender Only to One
When One
Black March
November
Thoughts about the Christian Doctrine of Eternal Hell
Dear Child of God
Why do you rage?
In Protocreation
Alone in the Woods
The Pleasures of Friendship
The holiday
In My Dreams
Marriage I Think
Wretched Woman
Dear Muse
My Muse
Souvenir de Monsieur Poop
Not Waving but Drowning
